Kwankwaso Accuses Goodluck Jonathan Of Plotting To Kill Him

The Governor of Kano State, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, revealed that his life is endangered and he may be on President Goodluck Jonathan’s watch list.

The governor made this declaration during an interview with PREMIUM TIMES in Abuja on June 11, 2014, Wednesday. He revealed that the president had ordered reduction of Kwankwaso’s security by 50%, therefore making the governor vulnerable to physical attacks.

He further commented on the current unrest in Kano State triggered by emergence of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the new Emir of Kano on June 8, 2014, Sunday. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and President Goodluck Jonathan have been obviously against such a candidature. 

The supporters of a son of the late emir, Ado Bayero, continue their protests against the appointment of an ex CBN boss.

However, Kwankwaso revealed he possesses “credible information” that the “mayhem” is being unleashed in accordance with presidential instructions and funding.

He further emphasised that the protests and destruction of governmental property in the state are being ignited and encouraged because it is being controlled by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In particular, he reminded that in Gombe a similar procedure had been completed a couple of days ago. Kwankwaso said the new emir was elected there without any tensions because the state is controlled by the PDP.

The governor further confirmed that the police laid a siege on the emir’s palace and intended to arrest the emir, therefore HRH Sanusi Lamido Sanisu could not move there, put the responsibility on the president.

Kwankwaso informed that 92% of Kano population were APC supporters, while the remaining 8% were “brewing and supporting crisis”.

It would be added that PREMIUM TIMES’ attempts to get comments on the statements given above have not been successful, as presidential aides Reuben Abati and Doyin Okupe were not available.

The relationship between Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and President Goodluck Jonathan used to be warm and hearty. However, after the governor dumped PDP for APC in 2013 they are being on decline. Both politicians used tough words against one another accusing each other of corruption and unprofessionalism.

Police Receives Order To Arrest New Emir Of Kano

A source within the Presidency in Abuja, on Wednesday revealed to SaharaReporters that the Nigerian police have been ordered to arrest the newly-crowned Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.

The source said the new Emir is to be arrested on fraud-related charges starting from his tenure as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

He said a team of police officers stationed at the Emir’s palace in Kano have been given order from the force headquarters to place Sanusi under arrest immediately he steps out of the state’s Governor’s lodge.

According to the source, the Emir was supposed to be arrested at his house on Sunday night after the Kano State Governor announced his appointment. 

It would be recalled that the presidency was alleged to have made some moves to frustrate Sanusi from emerging the new Emir of Kano, following the hasty congratulatory message the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) sent to one of the candidates before the choice was officially announced. 

The new Emir has been inside the Kano State governor’s lodge, where he has been receiving visitors as well as undertaking traditional rites.    

Meanwhile, the source further disclosed that prominent northern leaders had earlier warned President Goodluck Jonathan not to execute such rash action in order not to aggravate the already unstable situation currently in Kano State.  

Though it could not be ascertained if the President is considering dialoguing the issue, but it was gathered that he is yet to send a congratulatory message to the new Emir even after his party had since done so.  

The President has been taking a swipe at the former CBN governor since February, over the revelation that Jonathan and his associates have stolen at least $20 billion from crude oil sales in the last two years.

Masterminds of Nyanya bomb blasts nabbed – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday revealed that the masterminds of the two deadly bomb blasts that rocked Nyanya, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory have been arrested and are currently helping the security agencies in their efforts to unmask their financiers.

Jonathan spoke while fielding questions from journalists at the end of the 24th World Economic Forum for Africa, WEFA, held in Abuja which ended yesterday.

He also said that the Federal Government had earmarked $10 million as matching grant to the efforts by the international community to rescue the 230 abducted female students of the Government Girls Secondary School, GGSS, Chibok in Borno State.

Jonathan said he had declared a total war on Boko Haram ‘’terror group’’ to rout it out of existence in the country, warning that anybody thinking that the spate of bombings and other devastation activities by the Boko Haram sect in Nigeria would force his administration to bend over forward and negotiate power with the sect or their sponsors should rather have a re-think as such a situation would not arise.

He however, reiterated that the successful hosting of the WEFA in Abuja in spite of threats by the insurgents was a clear demonstration that the days of Boko Haram were numbered as they will soon be smoked out with the help of the international community and made to face the consequences of their evil deeds.

SSA to Imo State House of Assembly Speaker; Ikenna Samuelson Iwuoha and SSA to the Imo state Governor; Uche Ogbuagu Resign.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu on Special Duties has resigned his appointment. Citizen Ikenna Samuelson Iwuoha in a press release announcing his resignation yesterday maintained that some aides of the speaker are grossly corrupt, pointing out that it distorts the good programmes and policies of Governor Rochas Okorocha. “It will be recalled that few weeks ago, Citizen Ikenna Samuelson threatened to expose political appointees who instead of doing their jobs, rather embraced corrupt practices thereby distorting the good programmes and policies of the state government led by Owelle Rochas Okorocha”, the release reads. Iwuoha said that he has written a letter to the Speaker on the 7th of November 2013 informing him about the corrupt practices of his Chief of Staff Hon. Kodichi Anamekwe, adding that the letter was also copied to the clerk of the House and Honourable members of the House.

 “My nature as a social crusader will not allow me to keep quite when things are going wrong in my socio-political environment as a reservoir of information, I cannot betray the confidence I have in myself”. He stressed in the release. Citizen Iwuoha said that in his response to the query issued to him on Friday 13th of December 2013, he challenged the Speaker to set up committee of Honourable members to look into his allegations against his Chief of Staff, arguing that he is ready to prove his corrupt and fraudulent activities against Hon. Anamekwe. “Speaker Uwajumogu having failed to set up the panel, Samuelson sensing danger came to the conclusion that it would be better for him to resign and then fight on, thereby beating them to the plot to suspend him again” the release added. Iwuoha who promised to give them details of corrupt practices going on in the office of the Speaker without any fear, also accused SSA media to the Speaker Mr Emeka Ahaneku of stealing and diverting monthly stipends of Assembly correspondents. In his reaction, Hon, Kodichi Anamekwe told Nigerian Horn on phone that; “It is an allegation, if it is published, I will sue hell out of him (Samuelson). I will tell the House media man to call you on the matter”.

The Senior Special Assistant to the speaker on media, Emeka Ahaneku in a press release he sent to Nigerian Horn email box, insisted that Citizen Samuelson Iwuoha is under indefinite suspension as a result of his gross misconduct, insubordination and megalomaniac exuberances. Ahaneku maintained that nobody has received his resignation letter, noting that his stock in trade is blackmail and character assassination. According to him; “Nobody has received such letter in the office of the speaker. It is all fallacious and contrived barefaced lies designed to launder his self serving and putrid image of an activist and social crusader which to all intents and purpose he is not”. It will be recalled that Hon Uche Ogbuagu on Monday also resigned his appointment as the Senior Special Assistant to the governor of Imo State on entertainment.

Nigerian Horn was reliably informed by a source that his resignation may be connected to the frustration he is facing in the administration despite his contributions. It is also alleged that he is not comfortable with the style of the present administration. Ogbuagu is quoted as saying that Okorocha’s Government is not fair to him as an appointee. He threw in the towel at the Bongo Square on monday 15th dec 2013, during the welcome back party for the participants of IMO SHOW OF FAME held in London. He thanked the Governor for giving him the opportunity to serve in that capacity.

Ikuforiji Willing To Succeed Babtunde Fashola In 2015

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Sabit Adeyemi Ikuforiji, has officially announced his intentions to run for the governorship in 2015.

The statement was made during the second ‘Breakfast meeting with the Speaker’ in Ikuforiji's official residence at Joel Ogunnaike Street, GRA, Ikeja, on Tuesday, 6th May. The Speaker declared his readiness and desire to succeed the current governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola, whose term ends in 2015.
The Ikuforiji's aspiration was earlier expressed by the lawmaker and the Chairman of the State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Hon. Segun Ganiyu Olulade, at the last week Assembly meeting.
The Speaker is a member of a number of Committees within the House. He is the Member of the Education Committee, Member of the Commerce and Industry Committee and the Member of the Environment Committees.
He has been honoured as the Best Speaker in Nigeria by the National Leadership Award in Abuja and seen as one of the front runners for APC’s ticket. Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji was first elected Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly on 29th December, 2005.
Following his victory at the April 14th 2007 General Elections, he was returned to represent Epe Constituency II in the State Legislature under the aegis of Action Congress (AC) now Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
Presently he is representing Ikeja State Constituency 1. At the inauguration of the 6th Assembly held on Monday, 4th June, 2007, he became the first Legislator to serve as a Speaker for two consecutive terms.

Ekiti stands still as Mimiko, Iwuanyanwu storm Bamidele mega rally

Commercial activities were temporarily paralysed in Ado – Ekiti yesterday, as people thronged the state capital to welcome Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, National Chairman of Labour Party (LP), Dan Iwuanyanwu, and other dignitaries to join the party’s standard bearer, Hon Michael Opeyemi Bamidele ( MOB), in his mega rally.

 They visited the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe who prayed for him in his palace and charged him to be focused on what he is doing. Thereafter, the chieftains went to the mega-rally ground where Bamidele told the mammoth crowd that had waited for him since morning that he was passionate about Ekiti development, saying that was the reason for running for the governorship election.

 The LP candidate said if elected he would govern Ekiti State with the fear of God and not put the state into debt.

Mimiko, in his speech urged the people to vote for Bamidele because he is a man that can be trusted, adding, he is a well experienced as a lawyer, lawmaker and someone who was in the executive arm of government in Lagos State for over a decade.

Fayose, Olubolade mend fences

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former Police Affairs minister, Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade (rtd.) has finally mended fences with the party’s governorship candidate, Mr. Ayo Fayose, after their political relationship turned sour barely a month ago.

 At a meeting with PDP members and supporters in Ipoti-Ekiti, the duo promised to work together to send the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) out of office come June 21 this year.

 Olubolade said he was not a fair weather politician and would always abide with the decision of the party. His words: “For those asking why I have kept quiet all this while, I say there is no time limit to speak. I am not a politician who goes in search of greener pasture here and there. I am a disciplined party man and would always abide with the decisions of party leaders and I am not the type who would betray his leader. “

“ I have my followers. They will vote for you (Fayose). You will get there. I will work for you. You are a grassroots man. My main assignment is for Fayose to win and he will see the effect of my work.”

According to him, “APC is running a government of deceit and it must be booted out,” adding that Fayemi has put Ekiti in the valley of death and the state must be rescued and only Fayose can do that,” he said.

On the invitation sent to him by some APC leaders to join their party, Olubolade said they were only chasing shadows.

 In his response, Fayose said enemies of his party have been put to shame, saying, “Those who thought PDP would collapse after the primary have been put to shame because our party has come out stronger.

“The primary has strenghtened our party. All the aspirants are qualified to be our party’s candidate and I am assuring you that we will work together,” Fayose maintained. assuring that he would carry everybody along.

 “I will represent your interest. No one will be neglected. I am now more mature. I will take wise counsel, share ideas. This PDP will stand. I am a very transparent man. As for 2015, I will work to see that President Goodluck Jonathan wins South-West votes. I want you all to go and get your voter cards, so that you can vote on election day,” Fayose said. Both Olubolade and Fayose later addressed rallies in Ipoti, Iloro andIjurin among other places.

‘I’ll enhance Ekiti okada riders’ status’

Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, has assured the commercial motorcycle operators (otherwise known as okada riders) of freedom to operate without fear of being proscribed if he becomes the governor.

 Fayose, who stated this at Ire-Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of the state during his ward- to-ward campaign tour urged the commercial motorcyle operators not to vote for a party which after forming government , would throw them into the labour market.

According to a press statement issued in Ado Ekiti by Fayose’s spokesman, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, the PDP candidate said APC has a reputation of using Okada operators to win election, only to proscribe their operations later, assuring that he would not proscribe okada operation, but provide enabling environment to make the work decent and reduce okada accidents to the bearest minimum.

Crack in confab alliance as Yoruba delegates push for confederation

The alliance forged by the South West, South East and South South geo-political zones of the country prior to the com­mencement of the Nation­al Conference in Abuja may have collapsed over the latest decision by the Yoruba delegates from the South West to drop their initial demand for a regional system of govern­ment for confederation.

This followed the South West delegates’ disillusion­ment with its hitherto part­ners’ opposition to devolu­tion of powers and fiscal federalism, which they see as key issue to be pursued at the talk shop.

The new move, sources told Daily Sun last night, was being pushed by a group of young Turks among the delegates, known as New Trend Movement, headed by Chief Niyi Akin­tola (SAN) and Asiwaju Seyi Adegbuyi. The group is mounting pressure on Yo­ruba elders in the conference to review their relationship with the two regional blocs and re-strategise.

According to leaders of the movement, South West delegates were frustrated by the other zones’ perceived renege on demands already agreed upon before the con­ference commenced, which included fiscal federalism and devolution of powers at the centre.

 They alleged that the zones were conniving with the North to see that the sta­tus quo remained, a situation they described as negating the principles of equity and fairness to the states that make up the country.

 One of them told Daily Sun that the Yoruba dele­gates held the issues of fiscal federalism and devolution of powers as article of faith but were being opposed by zones that wanted the status quo to remain.

 “The issues of devolution of powers and fiscal feder­alism are key issues to us but they are not well treated by the South South and the South East delegates. They appear not to key into our agreement and idea any­more. So, there is no more basis for solidarity. Restruc­turing is the major thing. We can no longer continue to reach compromises that do not generate anything,” he said.

2015: Akwa-Ibom PDP seeks Mua’zu’s blessing for zoning to Eket

The Akwa-Ibom State chapter of the Peoples Democrat­ic Party(PDP) yes­terday stormed the nation­al secretariat of the party to seek endorsement for its zoning of the governorship slot to the Eket Senatorial District.

Recall that the state chap­ter of the party had in a meeting held on April 22, 2014 in Uyo resolved that the Eket Senatorial District would produce its gover­norship candidate for the 2015 governorship election.

Certain chieftains of the party from the two other senatorial zones, Uyo and Ikot-Ekpene had however, kicked against the resolu­tion.

Presenting the commu­nique to the PDP National Working Committee, the chairman of the party in Akwa-Ibom State, Obong Paul Ekpo declared that “ the resolutions were bind­ing on all members of the party in the state; we are here to present it to you for further affirmation.”

National Chairman of the party, Adamu Mu’azu in his remarks assured them that his leadership would look at the communique carefully “and in accordance with our party guidelines, we shall give you the support it de­serves.”

But he cautioned against imposition of candidates as he restated his stance that any aspirant seeking the party’s ticket for any of the elective offices should engage in vigorous cam­paigns.

“PDP is the only po­litical party that has grown democracy in this country. Those who want undemo­cratic tickets can try other political parties.

“You have to work hard for the party’s ticket; that’s how to deepen democracy. Nobody has the right to anoint anybody as candi­date. Power comes from God. Knowing that God gives power, at the end of the primary, support who­ever emerges.”
