Obituary: An icon’s father Michael Agbo Idibia dies at 68

Mr Michael Agbo Idibia has passed on to eternal glory after an unsuccessful battle with ill-health. The unfortunate incident, which occurred on the night of Saturday, August 23; was confirmed by Efe Omorogbe, head of Now Muzik and manager of 2face Idibia, Nigeria’s leading musician who is also the late man’s son second son as well as Bayo Omisore, 2face’s publicist. Mr Idibia succumbed to a medical problem he had to battle with for about the last twelve months of his life believed to have been prostate cancer.‎ 

He died around sometime past 7, about an hour ago and as expected, 2face and his siblings are downcast and grieving because they expected him to regain his health and be around for sometime more,’ Omorogbe Speaks 

Associates of the music star revealed to us that having been diagnosed early and commencing the required treatment in a medical facility regarded as a high grade center, family members were very hopeful that that the man, whose birthday on July 25, 2014, was quietly celebrated while undergoing treatment, would pull through but that was not to be. 

Born in 1946, the deceased attended the Kansas State University in the United States of America, after which he took up an appointment at Benue State’s Ministry of Agriculture. He worked from the capital of his home state, Makurdi, before retiring ‎some years ago from the Benue State civil service upon attaining the mandatory retirement age. 

Apart from his wife, Mrs. Rose Owoyi Idibia, Mr Idibia, who hails from Okpokwu Idumoga, the Idoma extraction of Benue State, is survived by children including Steven Idibia, Innocent Idibia also know as 2face, Hyacinth Idibia, a member of the now defunct Natives music group; as well as Oche Idibia and an unspecified number of grand-children mainly from 2face and his elder brother who is married and settled in the US.
